uncensored . . .

Since I recently slammed HarperCollins in a recent post, I figured I can give them props as well. Tyler Williams (Is it just me or have I been linking to Tyler a lot lately?) has a very nice review of The Uncensored Bible: The Bawdy and Naughty Bits of the Good Book.
Looks like a worthy read . . .

This makes me feel much more optimistic about the state of interpretation of the Hebrew Bible rather than an online discussion I recently engaged in wherein (in that commentor's own words) "systematic theology" overrode the blatant sense of an oft-repeated theme in the Hebrew Bible because he didn't like that version of God . . .

The above book is a nice look at variant (possibly off-the-wall, but fresh) interpretations (postulated by "bona-fide biblical scholars") of passages in HB. This at least is different than what is typically found in most Hebrew Bible interpretation (whether Xian, Jewish, or whatever) that merely totes traditional lines or bows out to audience sensitivities or "systematic theology" (whatever that means . . . can anyone tell I'm generally not a fan of that discipline?) . . .
(see also Charles Halton's recent "Bad Philology, but Good for Theology, but take note of John Hobbins's comment as well for variant thoughts . . . )

Thanks. That was cathartic (not nearly enough, but . . . ). I need to get back to something that doesn't make my blood boil--namely linguistics and Assyriology and the like . . .
